Junior Sailing
One-week program engages youth in boating safety, how to sail, and how to enjoy Paw Paw Lake.
The PPLYC Junior Sailing Program is a service offered to both members, and member recommended non-members. The goal is to provide programs that are safe, fun and educational. The scope of the curriculum ranges from fundamentals of safety, basic boat handling skills, sportsmanship, racing and yachting etiquette. The first lesson, regardless of sailing level, begins with a safety class. This lesson includes a swim assessment, capsizing and righting the boat, staying with the boat until help comes, how to board and exit a boat safely and rules of sailing. Wear a bathing suit.
Requirements- Beginners must be 9 years old or have completed the third grade to enter this class.
- Know how to swim.
- Life Jackets/PFD (Personal Floatation Device) must be worn at all times, and a have change of clothes.
- Wind and waterproof jackets are recommended.
- Sun block & water bottle.
- Release and Waiver of Liability for Marine Events must be signed.
Adult Sailing Program-Buccaneer
Learn to sail a Buccaneer. This all-adult program is for sailors 18 and older.
Requirements- Sailors must be 18 years of age.
- Life Jackets/PFD (Personal Floatation Device) must be worn at all times.
- Release and Waiver of Liability for Marine Events must be signed.
